keep day of the week the same for monthly events

right now, the calendar keeps monthly events by date, not by day. For example, students or meetings that I have monthly at 9am on Monday, do not stay at 9am on Monday for future months. It moves to the specified date that the first event was on (i.e. September 8th, October 8th). How can the calendar event repeat monthly on the same day of the week?
